Je cosi shnilého na venkově francouzském!
Každý z nás už viděl alespoň jeden film či seriál z (ne až tak) dávných dob, kde rozmazlené paničky peskovaly své poddané kvůli kdejaké prkotině, a dobře vychované služebné/kuchařky/zahradníci/podkoní beze slova plnili rozmary svých zaměstnavatelů jako roboti. Opravdu byl tento „druh“ lidí bez vůle a vlastního názoru? Tak to ani náhodou!
Přesně to je k vidění v Deníku komorné, který je inspirován stejnojmenným snímkem (a knižní předlohou) z roku 1964 s hvězdou tehdejší kinematografie, Jeanne Moreau, která byla údajně obsazena speciálně kvůli kráse svých nohou. V tomto zpracování si naštěstí užijeme mnohem více částí těla hlavní hrdinky s neméně podmanivou představitelkou Célestine, Léou Seydoux.
O co v tomto příběhu běží? Ocitáme se na přelomu 19. a 20. století a mladá a nezkrotná služebná z Paříže si nemůže mezi pracovními příležitostmi zrovna vybírat. Nemá se svou divokou povahou příliš dobrou pověst. Divák brzy pozná, že ponižovat se před bohatými dámičkami na plný úvazek je stále lepší varianta, než se ze zoufalství nabízet na ulicích nočního velkoměsta. Tak přijímá Célestine neatraktivní práci na venkově, který je však stejně prohnilý, jako Paříž, ale pokrytecky si hraje na něco lepšího.

Ženy, ať už její paní či jiné služebné, jsou si samozřejmě vědomy její krásy a chovají se k ní o to nejpřátelštěji. Ani divák k ní nechová zvláštní sympatie, protože občas nás snímek zavede do jejích myšlenek, kde nešetří vulgaritami směřovanými k její paní.
Brzy nám však film odhalí šťastnější období života mladé komorné, kdy ji zaměstnala šlechetná a vlídná stará dáma, která ocenila Célestininu inteligenci i temperament, a mladá dívka jí to oplatila vřelou stránkou své povahy. Pečovala o jejího těžce nemocného vnuka, kterému vlila znovu krev do žil, ale ani láska není všemocná. Tak se mladá dáma bez budoucnosti vrátila na koleje nepříznivého osudu bez vidiny východiska.
Stejně jako nestydatá hrdinka, ani kamera si nebere servítky a ukazuje nám nespoutanou, někdy i zvrhlou vášeň šovinistických pánů. Někdy jde o projev lásky a skutečného zájmu o osobu Célestine, avšak většinou pouze o prachsprosté dokázání moci a nejhlubší možné ponížení. V těchto krutých momentech ani vzpurná dívka nemůže mít navrch, a je si toho dobře vědoma.
Pánové se služebnictvem povětšinou zachází jako s věcí, méněcenným prvkem, kterému musí vždy dominovat, a neštítí se ho zbavit, kdykoli jim přestane vyhovovat. Toto nelidské opovržení dokáže zmrazit i rozvášněnou povahu hlavní hrdinky a nedivíme se jejímu zoufalství. Postupem času se začne přátelit se zahradníkem, kterému samozřejmě také uhranula, a vidina lepšího života je pro ni naprosto vším, navzdory děsivému podezření. Za štěstí je ochotna se vystavit jakémukoli riziku. Film je dějově bohatý a dominuje mu svižný střih a rychlý vývoj.
